Mike and Jackie want to share with you, their favourite photographic destinations in Otago-Southland, New Zealand.  Time will be spent discussing the image making process and how we successfully communicate through photographs.  Each day you will be challenged to make images that express the essence of a place and/or how you 'feel' about being there.

The workshop finishes with a mini printing workshop in Queenstown.

Destinations include Poolburn, Moa Creek, St Bathans, Middlemarch, Maniototo Valley, Moeraki Boulders, Oamaru and more.

Autumn in Central Otago is a favourite time for photographers. 
 Our destinations include Skippers Canyon, Moke Lake, Ophir, St Bathans and other gold mining settlements where the autumn colours are always spectacular and interesting to photograph. This workshop is for all photographers wanting to learn new photographic skills and make in camera captures that communicate an idea or feeling.

Jackie and Mike are on hand to encourage you to push your own boundaries and try new ways of making images. Understand picture styles, multiple exposures, show shutter speed techniques and more.  To learn to play with your camera and enjoy the photographic process from capture to print. 

Whatever your skill level Mike and Jackie will inspire you to push your photography further. With a small group of six students/photographers to two instructors, a lot can be achieved.

The Catlin’s is the hidden gem of the south. It sits between Invercargill and Dunedin at the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand and very much off the beaten track. The landscape and its people are very Kiwi. This part of the planet is a long way from the rest of the world, it has its own pace and its own sense of place - like no other.

Photographers on this workshop will have the opportunity to photograph the honest nature of New Zealand's southern tip. From forests, waterfalls, wildlife, weather, trees, people. 

What is important is to slow down and 'see' the beauty around you. Take a deep breath and relax with like minded photographers.

Be surrounded by a winter landscape that will inspire and seduce you. The mountains are majestic and powerful. Dress in warm clothes and become lost with Mike and Jackie in the world of image making. This experience will be one you will remember for a long time. 

Accommodation at The Hermitage Hotel is right in the heart of the Aoraki National Park.
The park is a harsh land of ice and rock with Glaciers visible from the valley floors. There are 19 peaks that reach the lofty heights of over 3,000 metres including, of course, New Zealand's highest mountain, Aoraki/Mount Cook.

This is a fantastic and unique environment to photograph. Haast beach has areas of driftwood that make you feel like to you are in an elephant grave yard. The beaches are always exciting to explore, as after every tide it is swept through to reveal new and interesting features.

Further afield we visit Bruce Bay where ancient Rimu forests stretch right down to the sea surrounded by a sandy picturesque bay with the Southern Alps as a backdrop. Jacksons Bay is an old fishing village with spectacular views to the ocean. This time of year is White baiting season. The fishermen and women make great subjects to photograph along with their fishing rigs and ephemera.

The third night in Te Anau allows time for reviewing files and receiving feedback about your work.
