About
the Autumn Colours- Landscape Workshop - April
23-26 2010$720
Throughout the workshop you will be encouraged to
take risks, to be inspired and energized, to be more open and
expressive in your photography. We aim to help you improve your
personal vision as well as discover new ways of seeing and makingphotographs.
We consider the process of making images to be more important than in some cases the product. You should leave this
course knowing yourself a little better; great photography comes from
the heart, passion and commitment.
Maximum
group size 8 students to two tutors, Mike Langford and Jackie Ranken
Above
all enjoy yourself and your photography.
This
all starts with a good understanding of what photography is, how your
camera operates, and pre-visualizing what you want to photograph.
To

We will send you our direct credit
bank details for you to make your deposit NZ$360. Refunds are
possible up to two months prior to the workshop starting date and are
transferable up to one month in advance. Full payment is due one
month in advance.
The
Critique process ... All
students will need to edit their images from each photographic
session down to around twelve files. These edited images will
be downloaded onto our computer and will be data projected for the
group to see. The edited images will become part of a book we will
make on the Monday of the Workshop. Copyright of the images remains
with the photographers at all times.
If you don’t have your own laptop or
downloading devise then please let us know, we can facilitate by
using our computers. You will need to be shooting jpegs for this
process.
What
you should bring: Five
landscape photographs for the first gentle critique session on the
Friday afternoon, prints or digital files. Clothing for cold / wet
weather as well as sunny weather including a hat, waterproof walking
boots. Insect repellent. Umbrella or rain coat for your camera, small
hand cloth to dry down gear.
Your camera gear, sturdy tripod,
camera charger, spare memory cards, or if your shooting Raw files a
transportable hard drive to download to.
Use
our Canon 500D SLR cameras; if you don’t have a digital DSLR. We
burn your files @ $20 per DVD.
We also have a few tripods that we can loan out @ $20, light
traveling tripods are of almost no use. If your thinking about buying
a tripod for the workshop contact us and we will give you our
recommendations or bring one for you to purchase.
What we provide;
Tuition
from Friday to Monday, 3-lunches, 1-dinner, Four
wheel drive access into a fantastic part of the planet.

A4 Art print of an image that you have made over the weekend, Morning
and afternoon teas.
Schedule-
This is a guide
to what happens, each workshop is unique in that the group has it’s
own dynamics.
After the Friday
night’s session, the schedule maybe modified to suit the group. The
workshops are about enjoying photography, and enjoying the company of
other like-minded people, I encourage you to be open and relaxed.
Friday
3pm-5pm –Introduction to the
course, bring along five landscape photographs or digital files to
introduce yourself to your fellow photographers. These will be
discussed in terms of composition, so consider bringing images that
you want feedback on.
Saturday
9.00am Revision on the use of the
creative controls in your camera: exposure, shutter speed, aperture,
white balance, picture styles, preventing camera shake..
10
.00am Composition lecture, pre-visualizing- the image making
process.
11.00am
Morning tea
11.30am pack your lunch and travel to
Macetown –
Up the Arrowtown River. This includes
many river crossings is at it’s best in Autumn. We travel through
Arrowtown on the way and we will stop to make photographs wherever
they present themselves. Macetown was a gold mining town.
5.00pm Download and critique
6.30pm
Dinner
7.30pm
audiovisuals by Mike and Jackie. This is an evening of inspirational
photographic journeys and photographic tales.
Sunday
9.00am Review of Saturdays images.
10.00am
Lecture on making ‘art prints’ or preparing for an exhibition.
11.00am
Excursion to Skippers Canyon-Packed lunch
4.00pm
Download and Critique
6.00 pm. Dinner out in Queenstown,
pay as you go.
Monday
This day is a relaxing day of
tutorials, it’s a chance to make the most from the weekends
photography .
9.00 am - Photoshop tutorial on
making an art print. Each student to select an image for Jackie to
prepare / enhance as an ‘art print’. A small A4 print will then
be printed on either her Canon Pro 9500 Martk II or her Epson Pro
7900.
Morning
tea
11.00am
From the weekend photography a book will be compiled. Students are
encouraged to bring along a laptop if they need to learn more about
Photoshop (it’s best to practice at the time), other wise watch
and learn from Jackie or Mike as they ‘fix’ images for the book.
